Policies and terms

Where these stand today

Truthring is pre-launch. Four of these documents are drafting scaffolds awaiting review by a qualified lawyer and are deliberately kept out of search until they are real. Two are finished, because they state our own position rather than law.

A policy page that reads authoritatively but does not describe what a company actually does is a liability, not a formality. Voice recordings are personal data in most jurisdictions, which makes the privacy document here a sensitive-data policy rather than boilerplate. Publishing a generic template under these headings would be the single easiest way to mislead someone about what happens to a recording they were frightened enough to send us.

Cookies What is set in your browser, by whom, and how to refuse it Scaffold
Refunds When money comes back, and the statutory rights that apply regardless Scaffold

The commitments that are already fixed

Three things will not change when the documents are finished, because they are product decisions rather than legal drafting, and they are stated across the site already.

  • A verdict is never the sole basis for an adverse decision. Not a dismissal, a rejection, a disciplinary finding or a prosecution. This is in acceptable use and it is the rule we care about most.
  • An unclear result is not billed. We do not want a financial reason to manufacture confidence the audio does not support.
  • Corrections are published with a date rather than made silently, including corrections to these pages. The mechanism is described on transparency.

Where a recording goes and how long it is kept is on security and data retention in more practical detail than a privacy policy would give you. What we publish and what we withhold is on transparency.
